Armed with the power of "=", we risk a result...
My Facebook feed is a sea of red and white. So sure, let’s totes promise to keep assigning math symbols to complicated issues of identity after today - in fact, 40% of homeless youth are LGBT (link). Over 10,400 Black men who have sex with men (MSM) were diagnosed as HIV+ between 2010 and 2012 (link). Over that same time period, 1/5 of Latina trans women in the LA area report being...

Affirmative Action Bake Sale by Berkeley College...
So first, the Berkeley College Republicans showed up to last night’s meeting of the ASUC Senate to PROTEST A BILL commemorating September 11, 2001’s tenth anniversary, because the bill’s inclusion of language recognizing U.S. and foreign civilian and military casualties in the following decade were somehow an inferior memorial to their concept of what “should” be...

Beijing Normal University’s FLOODED! Ambulances were stopped, cars broke down, and passengers tried to break down road dividers to get home without having to swim.
This is a result of a crazy night. Went out to a neighborhood called Guluodajie, headed home at 11PM, got caught in a flash lightning & thunderstorm, and walked for 2 hours calf-deep in rain and mud before we found a cab....
I don't need no stinkin' Ford Prefect.
I just went to my favorite noodle place - mian can guan - south of the Beijing Normal University Campus, at Xingtan and Xueyan streets. I was craving my favorite dish there„ which should only be described as Chinese spaghetti (oil, salt, noodles, tomatoes, egg, celery, and slivers of potato.)
I went around 9:15 PM, and the restaurant emptied out except for the waitress, her kids, and a...

Stunning? Really? Let me get this…straight… half of the country still thinks it’s immoral to express who you are? YAY. NOT!
I don’t care how long it takes bigots to change their minds. Give LGBT people equal rights and freedoms. Public opinion can catch up later. Public policy shouldn’t always be based on prevailing attitudes because clearly we have problems.
What gives with the...

Vancouver, China, Drugs, and the Olympics.
Vancouver has a drug problem.
It’ll be fascinating to watch how Vancouver gentrifies itself—that is, tackles its image problem (drug sales and violence) by removing lower-income buyers and sellers from their neighborhoods—particularly in the Downtown Eastside.
Will Vancouver’s government tear down buildings and construct Section 8-style slums outside the city’s...

On hate crimes and divestment
Earlier today I talked to Billy Curtis, the head of the Gender Equity Resource Center on campus, and he asked me to make an announcement in Senate about a hate crime which just occurred that most of us are probably not aware of: Last week, at CSU Long Beach, a transgender student who is an active spokesperson on issues of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender student rights. on campus. He was...
